Essential reading

Glazed façade connection details listed in this CSE chapter has been allocated a ‘Blast Mitigation Measure’ rating.

Mitigation measures are measures which reduce the number of fragments entering the room. These measures do not have a specific blast rating, as would be expected for protection measures which have been designed and tested to meet a specific blast load.

The connections listed in this CSE chapter have been blast tested as part of a complete stick curtain walling system which has been designed to meet the 5 key recommended elements detailed in the NPSA Guidance Note Mitigation Measures for Stick Curtain Wall Systems.

The current list of connections are only suitable for stick curtain walling with a capped glass retention system. Further research is being conducted on other types of curtain walling systems.

End users are reminded that when specifying mitigation measures for stick curtain walling system, all 5 key elements detailed in the NPSA Guidance Note Mitigation Measures for Stick Curtain Wall Systems must be implemented to achieve the hazard reduction.

NPSA wishes to thank the companies who have taken part in the research to develop the recommended blast mitigation measures for stick curtain walling systems and responding to our testing calling notice.

Manufacturers who believe they have a connection detail which they believe will meet the mitigation requirements detailed in NPSA Guidance should contact [email protected].
