Preparing and Responding to a Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) Incident

Last Updated 13 February 2024

Preparing and Responding to a Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) Incident provides guidance to security professionals on reducing the vulnerability of a building or site to a CBR incident.

It expands upon the core advice provided in NPSA’s Recognise, Assess, React (RAR) for CBR Incidents campaign, providing detailed advice to be implemented to mitigate a CBR incident.

It is comprised of three guidance products:

Preparing and Responding to a Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) Incident - An Introduction guidance document front cover

This guidance is for all security audiences, providing background and an overview of the guidance products.

Preparing and Responding to a Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) Incident - For Security Managers guidance front cover

This guidance is for Security Managers and/or Incident Managers, providing strategic and practical considerations for a site that they manage.

Preparing and Responding to a Chemical, Biological or Radiological (CBR) Incident – For Security Control Room (SCR) Staff guidance front cover

This guidance is for SCR staff, providing practical guidance for staff on how to prepare for and respond to an incident. This document is also useful for organisations that do not have a SCR function.
